MEDIA RELEASE 7 September 2007

Great results for waterwise residents

Tim Waldron, Chief Executive Officer, Wide Bay Water Corporation welcomed the recent rain which has allowed him to ease water restrictions across Hervey Bay.

"Recent rain, which delivered 49 mm in Lenthall Dam catchment and 43 mm at the dam itself following from rain received two weeks ago, has resulted in the dam rising to 92.6% of its old capacity (before the recent work to raise the dam with Crest Gates)" said Mr Waldron.

Mr Waldron added, "Together with the fantastic effort from Hervey Bay residents in reducing water consumption, I am able to announce the easing of water restrictions to Level One. I am also mindful of the fact that we are moving into the hotter time of the year and have changed the permanent Level One Water Restriction Rules."

Hervey Bay residents are urged to continue with their waterwise ways. By restricting water use during the heat of the day (when evaporation is at its highest), the new Level 1 Water Restrictions are designed to encourage residents to use water responsibly.

Level 1 water restrictions are:

  • All sprinklers, irrigation systems and soaker hoses are banned between 9:00am and 4:00pm.
  • Hosing of driveways and paved areas is banned at all times except where a water efficient high
pressure cleaner (i.e. similar to a 'Gurney') is used.
  • All hand held hoses in use must be fitted with a working trigger nozzle.
