Rainwater Tanks and Rebates

Wide Bay Water Corporation continuously promotes and encourages water conservation throughout the community.
As part of the Water Wise program, Wide Bay Water Corporation is offering property owners connected to its water supply system and who meet the eligibility conditions, the opportunity to claim a  $100 REBATE on the installation of a rainwater tank (Rebate offer will finish 31st January 2007)

Eligibility Conditions

  • Property owners living within the City Boundaries of Hervey Bay City Council who are connected to Wide Bay Water Corporation's water supply system are eligible to receive a rainwater tank rebate.
(Strictly one rebate payable per property).
  • The rainwater tank rebate will be allowed on both new and existing dwellings but CANNOT be used to replace or renew an existing rainwater tank.
  • This rebate only applies for rainwater tanks installed after 31 January 2004.
  • Rainwater tanks in Wide Bay Water Corporation reticulated areas should be used for outdoor purposes or toilet flushing ONLY and shall not be cross connected with the reticulated water system.
  • It is recommended that water from rainwater tanks should be used with caution as it may contain contaminants due to atmospheric pollution, animal droppings, roofing materials and paints, trapped insects and small animals, leaves, dust and inconsistent owner operation and maintenance.
  • To be eligible for a rebate, applicants in reticulated areas must ensure a non-return valve is installed at the water meter at the property boundary. (This is to reduce the risk of cross contamination of the potable water supply).
NOTE: Wide Bay Water Corporation will supply and fit these at no cost to the property owner.
  • In reticulated areas, overflows from your rainwater tank should be directed into the stormwater system to discharge to kerb and channel or Council underground drainage, so as not to cause a problem to neighbouring properties.
  • The property owner must pay all of the installation and maintenance costs of the rainwater tank.
  • The property owner assumes all risks and liability associated with installation and use of the rainwater tank.
  • The construction, installation and maintenance of the rainwater tank are to comply with Health Regulations 1996.
